As the season shifts and as more rain and cooler temperatures arrive in Virginia, the native grasses and goldenrods begin their breathtaking transformation, displaying a stunning array of warm hues at Machicomoco State Park. The coast is one of the last areas to see the fall colors, but there are plenty of festivals and programs that make it worth a trip to the parks this time of year.

At Machicomoco State Park, the native grasses and goldenrods are beginning to show their autumn hues, while the trees still hold onto their summer green.
