Rise and shine, astronomy lovers - a Total Lunar Eclipse is happening on March 3rd! Come on out to Sky Meadows, an International Dark Sky Park, for one of nature’s most breathtaking celestial events - a Blood Moon.

During this rare phenomenon, the Moon will glide through Earth’s shadow, transforming from its familiar silver glow into a deep, coppery red. The eclipse will reach its peak in the early morning hours, offering an unforgettable view. What better way to kick off your day?

The main gate will open at 5:30 a.m. for viewers, and the eclipse is expected to peak between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. A Ranger will be posted on the back lawn of the Mount Bleak House in the Historic Area to welcome early morning viewers, discuss the science behind lunar eclipses, and facilitate a one-of-a-kind Blood Moon experience against the incredible backdrop of the Crooked Run Valley.

Tips for Visitors: Dress warmly, as the eclipse occurs right at dawn. Bring binoculars or a telescope for an enhanced view! Rangers will have a limited number of binoculars to borrow during the event.

Don’t miss this chance to witness the Moon’s dramatic transformation in one of Virginia’s most beautiful natural settings!
