Park after Dark

Step into the park after the sun goes down and discover a whole new world that comes alive at night! Listen for owls, watch for bats, and explore the sights and sounds of the evening. Bring a lawn chair or blanket as we enjoy the Park after Dark. Don’t forget your binoculars and a flashlight; we will have red cellophane to cover the white lights so our eyes can adjust. 

4:30-6:30 Nocturnal animals and astronomy stations to explore at your own pace.

4:30-5:30 We will have S’mores around the campfire. One per guest.

5:30-6:30 Campfire Stories

5:30- 6:30 Owl Prowl Ranger-led night walk along Kanes Creek Trail. Registration is required for this hike. Maximum 20 guests. See contact information below.

5:00-6:00 Family-friendly night walks along Osprey View Trail. These hikes will be first-come, first-served. We will leave about every 30 minutes. We will offer several naturalist-guided walks during this time frame.

Please register for this event by calling the Visitor Center during open hours at 703-339-2385 or emailing Ranger Meg at meg.doppee@dcr.virginia.gov. Rain cancels, don't hesitate to get in touch with the park if you are concerned about the weather.   The program is free; parking fees still apply.
